FRED PERRY SPORTSWEAR BRAND

Fred Perry is a sportswear brand made famous by the famous laurel wreath that characterizes its logo. It takes its name from the English tennis player of the same name who won the men's singles tournament at Wimbledon in 1934. This victory kicks off a series of sporting successes that will make him one of the most famous tennis champions in history.

Fred Perry

At the end of the 1940s he founded the brand following an idea of the Australian ex-footballer Tibby Wegner, to whom we owe the birth of one of the first lines of sportswear with Caratt. The two went into partnership. Fred managed to convince the greatest tennis players of the time to adopt the Fred Perry wristband during tournaments: a completely new promotional method for the time. From the start, his partners wondered about which logo should be embroidered on the new products: Perry proposed a pipe, as a good smoker he was, but Wegner raised objections on the approval of a brand like that by the female public.

They agreed on the laurel wreath, a symbol of great sporting tradition and, moreover, the trophy which the winners of Wimbledon were awarded. The laurel wreath "signed" and gave identity and recognition to a line of T-shirts that became famous and very popular. A few years later, other products joined the men's cotton piqué t-shirts, up to the creation of a real clothing collection. Subsequently, a women's and a children's line was also launched, always in the name of sportswear and leisure time.
